ArtCenter is a highly creative environment in which to work. This has positive and negative implications. There is a very large gap in the treatment of administrative staff and senior staff/faculty which creates a "haves/have nots" dynamic. One's experience is also highly dependent upon the dynamics within their department. It is extremely difficult to make lateral moves once you are known within a certain department, and many employees run out of opportunities for promotion. It is difficult to address managerial issues in a meaningful way, and many entrenched senior administrators refuse change. Employees are encouraged to be creative, and are given access to extension classes. However; given the work-life balance it can be nearly impossible to take advantage of these resources, and there is no meaningful professional advancement programming. Employees can not take classes for credit or work toward a degree. This creates a huge brain suck wherein the more ambitious, proactive staff tend to disengage and leave. As with many companies known for their entrepreneurial, supposedly meritocratic culture, there seems to be a lack of appreciation for diversity and access, though there has been some movement to address this.

Great Place to work, past pace day to day. The job is never boring and it is a warm environment. The size of the College is under 2,000 students and is in a growth period with an increase in facilities and and is making everyones day to day challenging but with great accommodations for students and staff. I would recommend ArtCenter as a great place to work.
